Fishing Again is written by Shane Stanford, a carp angler based in Sussex. I have fished for carp for over twenty years, in the UK and in France, and I currently fish a private syndicate water in West Sussex.
Why this site exists
I started Fishing Again because most of what I learned in my first years on the bank, I learned the hard way. I bought rods that did not suit the waters I was fishing. I lost fish because my rig was wrong for the lake bed under it. I sat behind motionless rods in swims that never held a carp in the first place.
Almost none of that was written down anywhere in plain terms. The information existed, but it was scattered across forum threads, buried in magazine features, or wrapped around a product someone was trying to sell. This site is my attempt to put it in one place, written the way I would explain it to someone standing next to me in the swim.
What you will find here
Three kinds of thing. Tactical guides on location, bait, rigs and watercraft, which is the part that actually determines whether you catch. Gear guides, because the questions I get asked most are about what to buy. And venue and trip planning material, including fishing in France, which I have done regularly for years.
I write for anglers at every stage, but I have a soft spot for people starting out, because that is when bad advice does the most damage and costs the most money.
How I approach gear
I am straight about what I have used and what I have not. Some of the kit written about on this site sits in my own bag and has done for years. Other items I have handled, seen fished, or assessed on specification and on the reputation they have among anglers I trust. I tell you which is which on the page, rather than implying I have personally tested every rod ever made. You can read more about that on my testing and review process page.
How Fishing Again is funded
This site earns through affiliate links, mainly Amazon Associates. If you buy something after clicking a link here, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. That commission does not change what I recommend, and it never buys a place in a guide. Where I think a cheaper item is the better buy, I say so. Full detail is on the affiliate disclosure page.
Get in touch
If you have a question, spot something wrong, or want to tell me I am talking nonsense about zig rigs, I would rather hear it. You can reach me through the contact page.

He is straight about which kit he has actually fished and which he has assessed on specification, and says so on the page.
